US Southern Pine Exports Climb in October; Near Flat Year-to-Date

Southern pine lumber exports—both untreated and treated—were nearly flat year-to-date through October 2025, according to the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service’s Global Agricultural Trade System, with analysis from the Southern Forest Products Association (SFPA). Year-to-date shipments totaled 488 MMBF, roughly in line with October 2024 levels.

In October, Southern pine exports—60 MMBF—rose 47% year-over-year and 33% month-over-month.

In value terms, untreated Southern pine exports were up 4.0% year-to-date at $190 million, compared with the same period in 2024. Mexico led at $56 million, followed by the Dominican Republic at $39 million and India at $18 million.

October export value totaled $25 million, the highest monthly mark since June 2022, when exports reached $29 million.

Treated lumber exports were down 4% year-to-date through October compared with 2024. The Leeward-Windward Islands market led treated exports at $18 million, followed by Jamaica at $16 million and Belize at $10 million.

Softwood lumber imports were running 8% behind 2024 levels through October.
