The US National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) reported that as of Friday, April 24, 22,658 fires have burned 1,815,628 acres year-to-date, above the 10-year average for acres.
The National Fire Preparedness Level remains at 2 out of 5. Approximately 1,900 wildland firefighters and support personnel are assigned nationwide.
Wildland firefighters continue to face challenging conditions on multiple fronts. The Southern Area remains the most active, with fires in Georgia and Florida showing wind-driven growth and threatening structures. In the Rocky Mountain Area, dry fuels and gusty winds are contributing to new large fires. Elevated to critical fire weather conditions are expected across parts of the High Plains and Four Corners, driven by strong winds and low humidity, while dry conditions persist across the Southeast.

As of Friday, there are 21 large wildfires or emergency responses ongoing, with 1 contained.
Florida leads with 12 active fires; South Dakota has 4; North Caroline, Colorado, Montana, Nebraska, and North Dakota have 1 each.
The updated year-to-date comparison is as follows:
- Year-to-date through April 24, 22,658 wildfires have been reported, burning 1,815,628 acres.
- During the same period last year, 21,194 wildfires were reported, burning 973,830 acres.
- The 10-year average (2015–24) for the same period is 14,948 wildfires and 959,014 acres burned.
