Southern pine lumber exports—both untreated and treated—were down 9% year-over-year through the first half of the year, according to the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service’s Global Agricultural Trade System, with analysis from the Southern Forest Products Association (SFPA),
By quarter, Q2 exports rose 24% over Q1 but were down 6% from 2024Q2. On a monthly basis, June exports fell 18% year-over-year and 7.6% from May.
In value terms, Southern pine exports totaled $108.5 million in the first half of the year, 7% below the same period in 2024. Mexico led with $31.7 million, followed by the Dominican Republic at $22 million, and India at $7.7 million. Despite the year-to-date decline, Q2 export value rose 17% over Q1 but was down 7% from 2024Q2.
Treated lumber exports reached $66.7 million year-to-date, 4% lower than 2024. The Leeward-Windward Islands led with $10.5 million, followed by Jamaica at $8.3 million and Barbados at $6.7 million. By quarter, treated lumber export value in Q2 climbed 35% over Q1 and 11% over 2024Q2.
Softwood lumber imports were down 5% year-to-date at 6.8 MMBF compared with the same period in 2024.
