Södra to Invest $158 Million in Its Sawmill in Kisa, Sweden
Södra invests in Kinda for long-term competitiveness (translated)
On Wednesday, Södra announced plans to invest just over SEK 1.5 billion (US$158 million) in its Kinda sawmill in Kisa, Sweden. The investment is one of the largest the company has made in a sawmill facility and will secure the mill’s future while creating opportunities for further expansion, including a new pellet plant and potential future biocarbon production.
The project is expected to be implemented in stages and fully operational in 2028. Once completed, capacity will increase by 50% to 300,000 m3 annually. The investment also includes a pellet plant with a capacity of 25,000 tons.
Södra said the investment strengthens its position as a long-term supplier of wood products in Sweden and abroad, while reinforcing its presence in the regional market.
Commenting on the project, Södra CEO Lotta Lyrå said (translated):
“This is a future investment for Södra where we continue to make more of each tree and develop our position in a location with proximity to both the raw material and the market. Södra is stronger with Kinda than without it, and the alternative would have been to close the sawmill. We are now choosing instead to invest in our long-term competitiveness.”
