Moelven Announces Permanent Closure of Its Sawmill in Ransby, Sweden

Moelven has announced plans to close its sawmill in Ransby, Sweden—one of its two sawmills—citing weak profitability due to high raw material and production costs. Production at the Notaniemi sawmill will continue unaffected.

The closure will affect 24 employees at the facility, along with 14 hired contractors. The sawmill produces approximately 80,000 m3 of spruce and pine annually, focusing on thinner timber with diameters under 18 cm.

In a statement, CEO of Moelven Notnäs Ransby AB Peter Broberg said (translated):

“This is a tough day for all of us at Moelven, not least for our talented employees who work at the sawmill in Ransby. Unfortunately, this is something we need to do as we have had a deteriorating profitability for a long period. What we will primarily do now is to focus on taking care of the employees affected by the closure.”
