LANA and Etorki Cooperatives Merge to Form Major Southern European Sawmill Operation

LANA and Etorki, cooperatives within MONDRAGON Corporation, have approved a merger aimed at creating what the companies describe as the largest and most efficient sawmill operation in Southern Europe.

The merger proposal was approved by the general assemblies of both cooperatives. The companies said the move is intended to combine their production capabilities and experience to better address future market challenges.

Etorki is a MONDRAGON cooperative specialized in the production and processing of radiata pine.

The new Murga work center, scheduled to be inaugurated on May 11, is expected to support the expansion strategy by increasing efficiency and creating opportunities for innovation and regional economic development.

“We are doubling our current wood production capacity, improving the quality of our products, and enabling the production of higher value-added wood products to reach new customers and markets,” LANA General Manager Kepa Bastida said.

The combined operation is expected to reach annual production capacity of 300,000 m3 of sawn timber and 60,000 m3 of kiln drying.

“We want to become the largest and most efficient sawmill in Southern Europe,” Bastida said. “It will be a stronger cooperative, allowing us to reach many customers and markets we had not been able to access until now.”
