NAR Pending Home Sales Report Shows 1.4% Increase in April
On Tuesday, the National Association of Realtors (NAR) reported that its Pending Home Sales Index (PHSI)—based on signed contracts for existing single-family homes, condominiums, and co-ops—rose 1.4% month-over-month in April. Year-over-year, pending sales were up 3.2%.
An index of 100 corresponds to the level of contract activity in 2001.
The regional breakdown is as follows:
- The Northeast PHSI rose 6.6% but fell 0.6% from April 2025.
- The Midwest index increased 3.0% and rose 2.7% year-over-year.
- The South PHSI declined 0.7% but was up 4.7% from April last year.
- The West index increased 0.4% and rose 3.8% year-over-year.
