CMPC to Sell 60,000 Hectares of Forest to J.P. Morgan Natural Capital for $366 Million
Chilean pulp and paper producer CMPC has agreed to sell 60,000 hectares (148,000 acres) of forest land in Chile’s Maule Region to J.P. Morgan Natural Capital for $365.5 million, La Tercera reported (10-21-26). The land is held by CMPC’s subsidiary Forestal Mininco.
The properties consist mainly of radiata pine plantations and represent approximately 5% of CMPC’s total forest holdings. The sale is expected to have a positive financial impact, reflected in the company’s financial statements between Q4 and 2027Q1.
The transaction, disclosed to Chile’s Financial Market Commission (CMF), includes a long-term timber supply arrangement with Bosques San Pedro SpA, a subsidiary of J.P. Morgan Natural Capital.
The sale comes as CMPC faces financial pressures associated with its $4.6 billion Natureza pulp project in Brazil, which is expected to have an annual production capacity of 2.5 million tons of pulp.
The agreement follows CMPC’s September announcement of a $420 million sale of its Chilean corrugated packaging business to Smurfit Westrock. That transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2027.
