Brazilian Exports of Wood-Based Products Decline Month-Over-Month and Year-Over-Year in October

According to the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), in October 2022 Brazilian exports of wood-based products (except pulp and paper) declined 16% in value year-over-year. The total value fell from US$371.6 million in October 2021 to US$313.1 million in October 2022.

Pine sawnwood exports fell 32% in value, decreasing from US$74.5 million in October 2021 to US$50.4 million in October 2022. In volume, exports declined by over 28% during the same period from 268,900 cu.m to 192,700 cu.m.

Tropical sawnwood exports increased 29% in volume, from 28,000 cu.m in October 2021 to 36,200 cu.m in October 2022. In value, exports grew 65% from US$11.1 million to US$18.3 million over the same time period.

Demand for pine plywood exports declined 10% when compared to October 2021, from US$63.7 million in October 2021 to US$57.4 million in October 2022. In volume, exports increased 11% over the same time period, from 154,400 cu.m to 171,800 cu.m.

Tropical plywood exports tumbled 71% lower in volume and 77% lower in value, from 9,600 cu.m and US$5.6 million in October 2021 to 2,200 cu.m and US$1.6 million in October 2022.

The value of wooden furniture exports fell from US$78.1 million in October 2021 to US$52.9 million in October 2022. This represents a 25% year-over-year decline in wooden furniture exports.
