Belarus to Sell More Sawn Timber to China via the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange

The Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE) has told the Belarusian Telegraph Agency (BelTA), the country’s state-owned news agency, that it intends to ship more Belarusian sawn timber, vegetable oils, meat, and dairy products to China.

At a meeting recently held at the BUCE headquarters, the potential for increased trade possibilities were discussed with delegates from the Chinese private sector. The delegation was exploring the possible purchase of agricultural and woodworking products via exchange trade.

BUCE’s Head of Forest Products Section, Maksim Ignatenko, told BelTA that the participation of Chinese companies in sawn timber trade was also mentioned during the negotiations. Ignatenko noted that sawn timber is one of the most marketable groups of commodities on the exchange.

“Special trading sessions for selling sawn timber products to China a particularly indicative in this regard. During such trade sessions all the lots are listed with delivery to a certain location in China—a seaport or railway station. It increases the appeal of exchange trade as a purchase tool. For instance, 68% of the resource offer offering during the special trade session on 17 May were bought,” Ignatenko added.
