US Weekly Jobless Claims Increase for the Week Ending September 17, 2022

The US Department of Labor is reporting that seasonally adjusted an additional 213,000 Americans made their initial filing for unemployment benefits during the week ending on Saturday, September 17, 2022. This is an increase of 5,000 from the previous week’s revised-lowered level of 208,000 (originally reported as 213,000). The 4-week moving average was 216,700—a decrease of 6,000 from the previous week’s revised-lowered average of 222,700 (originally reported as 224,000).

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment (known as continuing claims) during the week ending September 10, 2022, was 1,379,000. This is a decrease of 22,000 from the previous week’s revised-lower level of 1,401,000 (originally reported as 1,403,000). The 4-week moving average was 1,404,750—a decrease of 8,250 from the previous week’s revised-lower average of 1,413,000 (originally reported as 1,413,250).

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.0% for the week ending September 10, 2022, unchanged from the previous week’s unrevised rate.
