US Weekly Jobless Claims Increase for the Week Ending March 25th

The US Department of Labor is reporting that the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial unemployment claims was 198,000 during the week ending on Saturday, March 25th. This is an increase of 7,000 from the previous week’s unrevised level of 191,000. The 4-week moving average was 198,250—an increase of 2,000 from the previously week’s unrevised level of 196,250.

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment, known as continuing claims, during the week ending March 18th was 1,689,000. This is an increase of 4,000 from the previous week’s revised level of 1,685,000 (originally reported as 1,694,000). The 4-week moving average was 1,691,750—an increase of 10,000 from the previous week’s revised level of 1,681,750 (originally reported as 1,684,000).

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.2% for the week ending March 18th, unchanged from the previous week’s unrevised rate.
