US Weekly Jobless Claims Increase for the Week Ending December 17th

The US Department of Labor is reporting that the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial unemployment claims was 216,000 during the week ending on Saturday, December 17, 2022. This is an increase of 2,000 from the previous week’s revised level of 214,000 (originally reported as 211,000). The 4-week moving average was 221,750—a decrease of 6,250 from the previously week’s revised level of 228,000 (originally reported as 227,250).

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment, known as continuing claims, during the week ending December 10, 2022, was 1,672,000. This is a decrease of 6,000 from the previous week’s revised level of 1,678,000 (originally reported as 1,671,000). The 4-week moving average was 1,657,250—an increase of 30,250 from the previous week’s revised level of 1,627,000 (originally reported as 1,625,250).

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.2% for the week ending December 10, 2022, unchanged from the previous week’s unrevised rate.
