US Weekly Initial Jobless Claims Increase in the Week Ending September 28th

On Thursday, the US Department of Labor on Thursday reported that the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial unemployment claims was 225,000 during the week ending Saturday, September 28th. This is an increase of 6,000 from the previous week’s revised level of 219,000 (originally 218,000). The 4-week moving average was 224,250—a decrease of 750 from the previous week’s revised average of 225,000 (originally 224,750).

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment, known as continuing claims, during the week ending September 21st was 1,826,000. This is a decrease of 1,000 from the previous week’s revised total of 1,827,000 (originally 1,834,000). The 4-week moving average was 1,829,250—a decrease of 4,750 from the previous week’s revised average of 1,834,000 (originally 1,835,750).

The advanced seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.2% for the week ending September 21st, unchanged from the previous week’s unrevised rate.
