US Weekly Initial Jobless Claims Increase in the Week Ending February 15

On Thursday, the US Department of Labor reported that the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial unemployment claims was 219,000 during the week ending Saturday, February 15. This is an increase of 5,000 from the previous week’s revised total of 214,000 (originally 213,000). The 4-week moving average was 215,250—a decrease of 1,000 from the previous week’s revised average of 216,250 (originally 216,000).

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending February 8, was 1,869,000. This is an increase of 24,000 from the previous week’s revised total of 1,845,000 (originally 1,850,000). The 4-week moving average was 1,862,500—a decrease of 7,750 from the previous week’s revised average of 1,870,250 (originally 1,871,500).

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.2% for the week ending February 8, unchanged from the previous week’s unrevised rate.
