Year-over-Year Declines for Construction Job Openings
A closer look at the January Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) released on Tuesday, with additional analysis by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), reveals that the number of open residential construction sector jobs increased from a revised 205,000 in December to 236,000 in January.
However, slowing construction activity has led to a significant year-over-year decline in the number of open and unfilled residential construction jobs, down 407,000.
The construction job openings rate inched up to 2.8% in January but remained well below the 4.8% recorded a year earlier.
Meanwhile, the construction layoff rate held steady at 1.8%, while the quits rate rose to 2%, close to its level from a year ago.
