On Monday, the US Census Bureau and Department of Housing and Urban Development jointly announced that new residential single-family home sales for December were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of 698,000, according to estimates. This is 3.6% above the revised November rate of 674,000 and 6.7% above the December 2023 estimate of 654,000.
An estimated 683,000 new homes were sold in 2024. This is 2.5% above the 2023 figure of 666,000.
The median sales price of new houses sold in December was $427,000. The average sales price was $513,600.
The seasonally adjusted estimate of new houses for sale at the end of the month was 494,000. This represents a supply of 8.5 months at the current sales rate.
