US Construction Spending Edges Higher in October
Monthly Construction Spending, October 2025
On Wednesday, the US Census Bureau reported that total construction spending in October 2025 was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of $2,175.3 billion, up 0.5% from the September estimate of $2,164.3 billion. Compared to October 2024, spending was down 1.0% from $2,197.1 billion.
For the first 10 months of 2025, construction spending totaled $1,825.3 billion, 1.4% lower than the $1,851.4 billion spent during the same period in 2024.
Private Construction
Private construction spending was at a rate of $1,651.3 billion in October, up 0.6% from the revised September total of $1,640.8 billion.
Residential construction rose 1.3% to $913.9 billion, up from $902.3 billion in September. Nonresidential construction slipped 0.2% to $737.4 billion, compared with $738.5 billion in September.
Public Construction
Public construction spending was estimated at a rate of $524.0 billion in October, up 0.1% from the revised September figure of $523.5 billion.
Educational construction increased 0.7% to $114.8 billion, while highway construction rose 0.1% to $141.6 billion.
