The U.S. Department of Labor reported on Thursday (12-28-23), its advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial unemployment claims made during the week ending Saturday, December 23, 2023, was 218,000, an increase of 12,000 from the previous week’s revised level. The previous was revised upwardly to 206,000, originally reported as 205,000. The 4-week moving average was 212,000, a decrease of 250 from the previous week’s upwardly revised average of 212,250, originally reported as 212,000.
The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment, known as continuing claims during the week ending December 16, 2023, was 1,875,000, an increase of 14,000 from the previous week’s downwardly revised level of 1,861,000, originally reported as 1,865,000. The 4-week moving average was 1,864,500, a decrease of 12,500 from the previous week’s downwardly revised level of 1,877,000 originally reported as 1,878,000.
The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.3% for the week ending December 16, 2023, an increase of 0.1 percentage points up from the previous week’s revised rate of 1.2% originally reported as 1.3%.
