U.S. Weekly Jobless Claims Inched Lower – in the Week Ending 22 nd June 2024

The U.S. Department of Labor reported on Thursday (6-27-24), its advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial unemployment claims made during the week ending Saturday, June 22, 2024, was 233,000, a decrease of 6,000 from the previous week’s upwardly revised level of 239,000, originally reported as 238,000. The 4-week moving average was 236,000, an increase of 3,000 from the previous week’s upwardly revised average of 233,000, originally reported as 232,750.

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment, known as continuing claims during the week ending June 15, 2024, was 1,839,000, an increase of 18,000 from the previous week’s downwardly revised total of 1,821,000, originally reported as 1,828,000. This is the highest level for insured unemployment since November 27, 2021, when it was 1,878,000. The 4-week moving average was 1,816,000, an increase of 12,250 from the previous week’s downwardly revised level of 1,803,750 originally reported as 1,805,500. This is the highest level since December 4, 2021, when it was 1,859,750.
