Producer Price Index for Final Demand Up Month-Over-Month and Year-Over-Year in September
Producer Price Indexes – September 2023
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported on Wednesday (10-11-23) that the Producer Price Index (PPI) for final demand, seasonally adjusted, increased 0.5% in September, following an increase of 0.7% in August. On an unadjusted basis, the index for final demand advanced 2.2% for the 12-month period ending in September—the largest annual increase since 2.3% in April.
The increase in the final demand index in September was led by prices for final demand goods increasing 0.9%. The index for final demand services advanced 0.3%.
The index for final demand less foods, energy, and trade services increased 0.2% in September, the fourth consecutive monthly increase. For the 12-month period ending in September, the index for final demand less foods, energy, and trade services rose 2.8%.
