Producer Price Index for Final Demand Declined 0.5% in March; Up 3.6% Year-Over-Year

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported Thursday (4-13-23) that the Producer Price Index (PPI) for final demand, seasonally adjusted, decreased 0.5% in March. The decline follows no change in February and a 0.4% increase in January. On an unadjusted basis, the index for final demand advanced 2.7% for the twelve-month period ending in March.

In March, two-thirds of the decline in the final demand index was attributed to a 1.0% decrease in prices for final demand goods. The index for final demand services was 0.3% lower.

The index for final demand less foods, energy, and trade services increased 0.1% in March, following a 0.2% increase in February 2023 and a 0.5% rise in January. For the 12 months ending in March, prices for final demand less foods, energy, and trade services advanced 3.6%.
