Single-family building permits rise to a 12-year high
The U.S. Census Bureau reports that single-family authorizations, as permits are commonly known as, jumped 987,000 at a seasonally adjusted annual rate, the highest since June 2007. The January increase was a gain of 6.4% over December 2019. Overall permits, including multifamily units and single-family homes, jumped 9.2% to an annual pace of 1.551 million, the highest level since March 2007.
