COVID-19 Continues to Impact Home Purchasing Plans
The latest Housing Trend Report (HTR) from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) reveals that the share of Americans who are considering the purchase of a home in the next 12 months was 15% in the Q4 of 2020, four percentage points higher than a year earlier and the largest year-over-year gain in the 3+year history of this series. The gain shows the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact Americans’ propensity to want to buy homes. However, the share of prospective buyers who would be purchasing a home for the first time modestly decline in Q4, to a reading of 63% down from 61% in Q3. The report also provides a generational break down of buyers year-over-year (2019 vs. 2020) and by region.
