The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) is reporting that consumer prices increased at a slower pace in September. According to the BLS, The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 0.2% on a seasonally adjusted basis, slower than the 0.4% increase experienced in August and a 0.6% increase in July. Year-over-year, on a not seasonally adjusted basis, the CPI increased by 1.4% in September, on the heels of a 1.3% increase in August. In the past 12 months the ‘core’ CPI increased by 1.7%, which is the same increased experienced in August. Year-over-year, the food index rose by 3.8%, while the energy index declined by 7.7%.
