Canadian Wholesale Sales Increase to New Record High in October

Statistics Canada (StatCan) reported on Friday (12-16-22) that wholesale sales rose 2.1% in October to $83.4 billion (CAD). Wholesale sales increased in every province in October, with Quebec, BC, and Ontario leading the way and accounting for 78.1% of national sales.

The largest increases were in the miscellaneous goods, the building material and supplies, and the personal household goods subsectors, which combined accounted for 82.4% of the October monthly gain. Sales increased in six of seven subsectors. On a constant dollar basis, sales rose 0.9% in October.

The building material and supplies subsector rose 3.3% to $12.6 billion in October, on higher sales in the lumber, millwork, hardware and other building supplies industry, which reported its first increase since March 2022.
