Canfor Corporation has offered an update on recent mill curtailments and closures, which are the result of the COVID-19 pandemic and poor economic conditions which continue to impact their sawmill operations. Canfor official Michelle Ward said in prepared remarks that we are closely assessing overall production capacity against customer demand. Canfor’s operations in Chetwynd in the northeast and Elko in the southeast did re-open May 11 at four days a week. However, operations at Polar north of Prince George and Radium in the southeast, as well as the Houston mill, remain closed. Previously Canfor had announced the permanent closing of their Isle Pierre Mill sometime during the third quarter of 2020. The mill is currently in production as they work through the existing log deck.
