Small Fire Reported at Georgia Pacific’s Mount Jewett, PA, MDF Facility

On Tuesday afternoon, a fire was reported in the press area at Georgia Pacific’s (GP) MDF facility located in Mount Jewett, Pennsylvania, The Bradford Era reported (1-3-23).

“They had a fairly small issue in the press area,” GP spokesperson Rick Kimble told The Bradford Era. In the MDF manufacturing process, “the fibers and everything have to be pressed together. They had an ember or two fall into the press. When they went to clean it out, it fell (to the floor). We have an automatic deluge system, which pretty much put it out before the firefighters got there.”

Kimble added that the facility manager and others were waiting for the fire department to give them the all-clear before they could reenter the building and begin the process of assessing the damage. As of 5:00 PM EST on Tuesday, fire fighters were still on the scene.
