Fire at West Fraser’s WestPine MDF Log Yard north of Quesnel, B.C. Destroys a Large Number of Logs

A fire was reported at the West Fraser WestPine MDF log yard, just north of Quesnel, B.C., on Tuesday (11-9-21) at 2:30 PM. Heavy smoke was seen billowing into the cemetery as firefighters were up against very windy conditions. Flames could be seen shooting high into the air with the fire appearing to have spread to the embankment next to the cemetery.

Observers on the scene estimated that thousands of logs were on fire. West Fraser has confirmed the report but could not provide further details.

The Quesnel Fire Volunteer Fire Department, with the assistance of other fire departments, including the Cariboo Regional District, worked to prevent the blaze from spreading to the cemetery. No structures were threatened by the fire.
