Aspen Planer Group Announces Temporary Closure of Its Merritt, BC, Operation

Aspen Planer Group (AP Group) has temporarily shuttered in Merritt, BC, operations due to what AP Group Executive Vice President Bruce Rose calls “market realties,” Castanet reported (6-12-24). The mill has been offline for more than a month.

Rose told Castanet the core problem “is that BC is now the highest cost forest products manufacturing in North America. It’s very difficult in forestry to get things done in BC.”

Prior to the mill closure, Aspen ran on only “a single shift daily basis for much of 2023 and 2024,” according to Rose. He does not know when Aspen Planers will open again.
