US Weekly Jobless Claims Move Higher in the Week Ending June 8th

On Thursday, the US Department of Labor reported that the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial unemployment claims was 242,000 during the week ending Saturday, June 8th. This is an increase of 13,000 from the previous week’s unrevised level of 229,000. The 4-week moving average was 227,000—an increase of 4,750 from the previous week’s unrevised average of 222,250.

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment, known as continuing claims, during the week ending June 1st was 1,820,000. This is an increase of 30,000 from the previous week’s revised total of 1,790,000 (originally 1,792,000). The 4-week moving average was 1,796,750—an increase of 8,500 from the previous week’s revised average of 1,788,250 (originally 1,788,750).

The advanced seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.2% for the week ending June 1st, unchanged from the previous week’s unrevised rate.
