CSX Provides Update on Hurricane Idalia’s Impact on Rail Operations
CSX in service recovery mode following Hurricane Idalia
FreightWaves reported on Thursday (8-31-23) that in a service update issued by CSX late Wednesday night, the company said it was in the process of “evaluating the impacts” of Hurricane Idalia on its rail network and implementing service recovery plans.
CSX says that its customers will receive additional advisories should conditions warrant but noted that strong winds and high water/flooding are concerns.
For now, CSX said operations have been temporarily suspended along its I-95 route through Georgia and South Carolina until the railroad can assess the full extent of the storm’s impact. CSX is also in the process of clearing tracks, checking signals and crossings, and performing repairs as needed.
On Wednesday night, according to FreightWaves, CSX also reported having temporarily ceased operations on the Bow Line between Waycross, Georgia, and Thomasville, Georgia/Dothan, Alabama, and halted operations on one of five humps at the hump yard in Waycross, Georgia. However, both areas have since resumed operations. Line of road operations have also resumed on the Manchester/Fitzgerald subdivision from Jacksonville, Florida/Waycross, Georgia to mid-Georgia, which had experienced a 16-hour outage, CSX said.
“CSX crews are committed to working effectively with customers to ensure safe service restoration as quickly as possible,” CSX said in its service advisory, FreightWaves reported.
