President Trump Says Tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China Will Be Implemented on March 4

President Donald Trump, posting on his Truth Social account on Thursday morning, said that he plans to impose 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico, with the tariff on Canadian energy at a reduced percentage, starting Tuesday, March 4, The Associated Press reported (2-27-25).

He also announced that he would double the 10% universal tariff charged on imports from China.

In the post, Trump said drugs are being smuggled into the US at “unacceptable levels” and that import taxes would force other countries to crack down on the trafficking. “We cannot allow this scourge to continue to harm the USA, and therefore, until it stops, or is seriously limited, the proposed TARIFFS scheduled to go into effect on MARCH FOURTH will, indeed, go into effect, as scheduled,” he wrote. “China will likewise be charged an additional 10% Tariff on that date.”

“The April Second Reciprocal Tariff date will remain in full force and effect,” he added.
