Workers at Kruger Packaging Plant in LaSalle, QC, Launch Seven-Day Strike

Around 100 workers at Kruger’s cardboard packaging plant in LaSalle, Quebec, began a seven-day strike on Wednesday, The Canadian Press reported (12-10-25). The walkout follows a shorter strike in November that lasted a day and a half.

Wage increases are at the center of the labor dispute. Union members rejected the latest offer last Saturday by a margin of 92.5%. The proposal had been submitted by the conciliator assigned to the negotiations.

Union president Benoît St-Cyr said the next collective agreement must “prevent the impoverishment of workers, considering the high inflation during the term of the last collective agreement.”

Company management disputed the union’s characterization, stating, “Contrary to what seems to be being conveyed, our offer makes up for the high inflation of recent years and improves the purchasing power of our employees in the future.” Management declined further comment.

The union is affiliated with the Manufacturing Industry Federation, one of the federations within the CSN.
