Molpus Woodlands Group Acquires 173,000 Acres of Timberland in the US South

On Thursday, the Molpus Woodlands Group announced that it has purchased approximately 173,000 acres of timberland across Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi on behalf of its clients.

Molpus said the properties consist of high-quality, well-managed forests strategically located near pulpwood, plywood, and dimensional lumber facilities. The company noted that the timberlands also offer diversified income potential, including opportunities in solar development, carbon capture and storage (CCS), recreation, and pine straw harvesting.

Molpus’s vertically integrated team will manage the tracts, overseeing sustainable harvests, reforestation, and habitat protection. The company plans to include the new acreage under its Sustainable Forestry Initiative certification, emphasizing biodiversity, water quality, and regeneration standards.

Molpus President and CEO Terrell Winstead said:

“As a long-time manager in Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi, we are excited to add these forests to regions where we already have a strong presence. It is our view that these properties provide our clients with positive exposure to areas with established histories of sustainable timber production as well as numerous impact and value add opportunities.”
