FHFA House Price Index Rises in Q2
On Tuesday, the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) reported that its House Price Index (HPI) rose 0.3% in Q2 compared with Q1. Year-over-year, home prices increased 2.1%.
FHFA’s seasonally adjusted monthly index was unchanged in June from May.
Year-over-year, prices rose in 46 states and the District of Columbia. Nationally, the US housing market has recorded positive annual appreciation in every quarter since the beginning of 2012.
All nine census divisions posted positive year-over-year house price changes. The East North Central division recorded the strongest appreciation at 4.5%, while the Pacific division posted the slowest growth at slightly above 0.0%.
The HPI is a comprehensive collection of publicly available house price indexes that measure changes in single-family home values. FHFA uses a weighted, repeat-sales statistical technique to analyze house price transaction data.
