BC Postpones Introduction of Heritage Conservation Act Amendments
Continuing engagement for Heritage Conservation Act
On Monday, the British Columbia government announced it is postponing the introduction of proposed amendments to the Heritage Conservation Act that had been expected in the spring.
The Ministry of Forests said it will continue engaging with industry, project proponents, First Nations, local governments, and other stakeholders. The province plans to invite industry partners to a cross-sector meeting in the coming weeks to discuss the permitting process and will continue to accept feedback as work continues.
The ministry said the decision reflects the need for further engagement to gather and incorporate additional input. Feedback to date has highlighted the importance of streamlining permitting for major projects on Crown land and private residential projects, supporting faster community rebuilds after disasters, and better protecting heritage and significant First Nations cultural sites.
The ministry said progress updates and new information will be shared as they become available.
