Art Schmon

Vice President, Engineered Wood & Mass Timber

Art Schmon is the lead author of FEA’s Global Mass Timber Service and the Managing Director of Mass Timber+, an international conference dedicated to mass timber and fully integrated offsite construction.
With more than 50 years of engineered wood products experience, Art has held senior management positions at leading EWP companies, specializing in the management and commercialization of business startups.
Notably, he co-managed the market research, commercial development, and market rollout for MacMillan Bloedel’s $150 million commercialization of Parallam® PSL.

Later, Art played a seminal role in the formation of Trus Joist MacMillan (TJM), a JV Limited Partnership that became the world’s leading engineered lumber company. He subsequently managed the start-up and commercial development of TJM’s European operations, introducing Parallam®, Microllam®, I-joists, and TimberStrand® to the European market.

In 2009, Art collaborated with Paul Jannke to create FEA’s Engineered Lumber Service and served as its lead author through 2021. In 2019, he developed and launched FEA’s Global Mass Timber Service and is its lead author.

Since its debut in 2018, Art has also managed Mass Timber+ (formerly IWBC), an international conference focused on mass timber and fully integrated offsite construction.

Art has presented at numerous international conferences on the markets and technologies for engineered wood products and is recognized as a leading expert in his field.

He holds an undergraduate degree from Princeton University (’72) and an MBA from Simon Fraser University (’79).
