Described in October 2022 as the crown jewel of the massive $2 billion dollar expansion of the Portland International Airport, the 9-acre mass timber roof, which has been under construction since last year in a remote corner of the airfield, was transported in pieces and carefully lifted into place over the past several weeks.
The undulating edge of the roof will become the cursive signature of the airport, with some saying perhaps the whole city. The TCORE, or Terminal Core Redevelopment project, will see the main terminal transformed into one giant space with picture windows and round skylights, filled with live plants and a ceiling decorated with lattice of woodwork.
