New Ontario Cedar Mill Signs Fiber Supply Agreement
Ontario’s The Fort Frances Times reported on Wednesday (9-13-23) that Szeder Sunset Cedar Mill in Barwick has signed a Fiber Supply Business Agreement with Boundary Waters Forest Management Corp (BWFMC).
The Fiber Agreement provides for a cedar commitment of 7,500 m3 annually from the Boundary Waters Forest. The cedar will be supplied to the mill by numerous local forest harvesting contractors who currently work in the Boundary Waters Forest.
The last 24 months have seen a transformation of an abandoned peat processing facility into an integrated forest processing and manufacturing facility that utilizes cedar to manufacture cedar lumber, finished paneling, posts, timbers, yard mulch, and wood shavings for the pet and livestock industries.
Mike Willick, BWFMC’s president, said during a presentation to the Fort Frances council last month that the cedar mill represents a small but significant niche element in the district by transforming previously unused material into high-value products, according to The Fort Frances Times.
