Canfor Holds Groundbreaking Ceremony for Its New Sawmill Facility in Deridder, Louisiana

British Columbia-based Canfor Corporation held its official groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday (4-22-22) for a new sawmill facility in DeRidder, Louisiana. The company had announced its choice of the DeRidder, Beauregard Parish site last summer.

The state-of-the-art sawmill will be located on an LED Certified Site at the Beauregard Parish airport, just outside DeRidder city limits, where parish and city officials strived to showcase the areas’s industrial qualities.

The new facility will be Canfor’s first greenfield project, as well as the company’s first investment in the state of Louisiana. Canfor Southern Pine’s DeRidder site is projected to be $160 million state-of-the-art sawmill complex and will be Canfor’s 16th operation in the U.S.

The sawmill plant is expected to open this winter and will create an estimated 516 direct and indirect jobs.
