Arbec Gradually Resumes Production at Its Sawmill in L’Ascension-de-Notre-Seigneur, QC
Gradual reopening of the Arbec sawmill in L'Ascension (translated)
The Arbec sawmill in L’Ascension-de-Notre-Seigneur, Quebec, is gradually resuming operations, Radio-Canada reported (8-4-25).
About 100 employees returned to work on Monday, despite ongoing uncertainty. The sawmill employs 225 people at full capacity, making this a partial restart.
“We currently have inventories of roundwood in the forest and in the yards of factories. It’s wood, so if we want to get the value of these logs and avoid deterioration, we have to start quietly machining our volumes of wood to make sure we don’t lose this value,” said Pierre Cormier, co-president and COO of Groupe Rémabec.
The company, which belongs to the Groupe Rémabec, had suspended its operations two months ago due to the softwood lumber dispute with the US and high roundwood prices in Quebec.
