Sweden’s Sveaskog Lowers Timber Prices Amid Uncertain Market Conditions

Citing a challenging market environment, Sweden’s state-owned forestry company Sveaskog on Tuesday announced lower price lists for wood purchases from private forest owners, effective immediately.

Softwood and hardwood pulpwood prices were reduced by 40 SEK/m3fub nationwide. The new price level is 460 SEK/m3fub for softwood pulpwood and 440 SEK/m3fub for hardwood pulpwood.

Sveaskog also said timber prices are being adjusted based on local market conditions.

In remarks accompanying the announcement, Sveaskog Marketing Manager Patrick Bäckström said:

“We continue to have good demand for both timber and pulpwood from our customers at the sawmills and pulp mills, but the market situation is currently uncertain. To ensure a long-term sustainable business throughout the value chain, we need to adjust our price lists. As Sweden’s largest forest owner, we continue to work for a strong and stable timber market over time.”
