Storm Causes Extensive Forest Damage in Sweden

Storm Dave caused widespread forest damage across southern Sweden on April 4–5, with total losses estimated at SEK 2 billion (US$217.56 million), the Sweden Herald reported (4-15-26).

The Swedish Forest Agency, working with forest owners, said the hardest-hit region was Västra Götaland County, where around 1 million m3 of timber was blown down. In Jönköping County, just under 500,000 m3 was damaged, with similar volumes reported across Östergötland, Kalmar, Kronoberg, Halland, and Örebro counties.

“The fact that there is widespread damage has made estimating the extent of the damage especially difficult,” Mattias Sparf, regional damage coordinator at the Swedish Forest Agency, said.
