US Mortgage Rates Fall in the Week Ending April 16

On Thursday, Freddie Mac released its Primary Mortgage Market Survey for the week ending Thursday, April 16.

The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.30%, down from 6.37% the previous week. A year ago at this time, the 30-year rate averaged 6.83%.

The 15-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 5.65%, down from 5.74% last week. A year ago at this time, the 15-year rate averaged 6.03%.

Commenting on this week’s survey, Freddie Mac Chief Economist Sam Khater said:

“Mortgage rates declined this week to a four-week low of 6.30%. Compared to one year ago when rates were at 6.83%, this is a meaningful improvement for homebuyers during what is typically the busy spring homebuying season.”
