Segezha Group Reports Widening Loss in 2025

Segezha Group posted a net loss of 88 billion rubles (US$1.1 billion) in 2025, roughly four times deeper than its 22-billion-ruble loss a year earlier, WoodCentral reported (4-26-26). Revenue declined 12% to 89 billion rubles (US$1.3 billion), as weaker sales volumes, soft pricing, a stronger ruble, and rising costs weighed on performance.

China remained the primary pressure point, accounting for 77% of lumber sales. The company cited weak demand and persistent pricing pressure in the market. Lumber sales volumes fell 9% to 2.1 million cubic meters, while Segezha increased domestic sales at some processing sites to as much as 69% to offset volumes displaced by the downturn in China.

The results come amid broader stress across Russia’s forest sector. Industry warnings suggest up to 50% of companies could shut down by the end of 2026, prompting regional lawmakers in Arkhangelsk to push for a three-year moratorium on creditor-initiated bankruptcies, along with tax deferrals and a freeze on pre-2026 debt collection.
