Pfeifer Group Making Major Investment in Uelzen, Germany Mill

The Pfeifer Group, an Austrian-based wood processing company that manufactures timber products, is undertaking a massive expansion and modernization program at eight of their northern most locations. The projects are scheduled to be completed in 2024.

After extensive investments at the other locations, Pfeifer is currently focusing on its “Northern Lights” at the port of the Hanseatic city of Uelzen, Germany.

The expansion offensive begins in 2022 with the construction of a waste wood recycling plant to diversify the raw material base in addition to the fresh chips from its own sawmill. This is accompanied by modernization and capacity expansion in pallet block production to 350,000 m3 per year.

In commenting on the expansion and modernization program Michael Pfeifer, Managing Director of Pfeifer Holding GmbH, said, “More circular economy is the order of the day. Of the 7 million tons of recycled wood that accumulates annually in Germany alone, only one seventh is currently recycled.”

“We want to actively contribute to the efficient use of the valuable raw material in as many cascades as possible,” Pfeifer added.
