Glennon Brothers Acquires UK Timber-Processing Business Pontrilas Group
Glennon Brothers buys £120m-turnover Welsh timber group
Ireland’s Glennon Brothers has acquired UK timber-processing business Pontrilas Group, expanding its footprint in the British timber market, the Irish Independent reported (1-29-26). The transaction was completed on January 27.
The company said the acquisition will increase production capacity and strengthen its ability to supply sawn softwood across the UK and Ireland. Glennon Brothers already operates sawmills and a timber-frame home manufacturing facility in Scotland. The addition of Pontrilas brings a large England-and-Wales-based operation into the group, increasing its scale in the British market.
Pontrilas Group operates a major timber-processing mill on the Welsh border and is involved in sawmilling and timber packaging, supplying customers across the UK. The business employs more than 530 people and reported turnover of £120 million (US$166 million).
Founded in 1947 by the Hickman family, Pontrilas has remained family-owned for more than 70 years. Glennon Brothers said the existing management team will remain in place following the acquisition.
