US Weekly Initial Jobless Claims Increase in the Week Ending April 18

On Thursday, the US Department of Labor reported that the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial unemployment claims was 214,000 for the week ending Saturday, April 18, an increase of 6,000 from the previous week’s revised level of 208,000 (originally 207,000). The four-week moving average was 210,750—an increase of 750 from the prior week’s revised average of 210,000 (originally 209,750).

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending April 11 was 1,821,000, an increase of 12,000 from the previous week’s revised level of 1,809,000 (originally 1,818,000). The four-week moving average was 1,812,250—an increase of 1,250 from the prior week’s revised average of 1,811,000 (originally 1,813,250).

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.2% for the week ending April 11, unchanged from the previous week’s unrevised rate.
