Garnica to Build New Plywood Factory in Uruguay

Garnica, a manufacturer of sustainable plywood made using farm-grown poplar from Spain and France, has announced plans to open a new plant in Uruguay. The new factory will be located in the city of Treinta y Tres, in the region of the same name in the northeast of the country. The Uruguay factory will be the company’s first factory on the American continent and produce finished plywood panels.

According to Garnica, the company selected Uruguay due to its high level of professionalism in the forestry industry, stability, and access to quality raw materials with the highest sustainability standards. Uruguay has been actively promoting its national forestry industry as one of its strategic sectors for the past three decades. Currently Uruguay has more than 1.1 million hectares of sustainable tree farms, ensuring a guaranteed supply line for a flourishing forestry industry.

Garnica says the land transfer was completed on April 13th. Construction is anticipated to commence in the next few months, and production is expected to begin sometime in 2024. When completed, the new Uruguay plant will bring the total number of Garnica’s factories up to eight.
